This is a "more practical" application for an active mixer:
This circuit provides for individual gain controls at the inputs. This allows for adjustments of levels prior to mixing. It also
provides the operator with the ability to keep levels at all inputs within acceptable ranges to prevent "overdrive" and excessive volume at the output.
This is refered to as "Riding the Gain" in the professional audio and broadcast industry.
You will also notice that both of these "active Mixers" have "two" outputs.... Why, because this type of mixer is more likely to be used as an instrumental mixer. The two
outputs, allow for the mixer to "feed" two separate amplifiers. This is every rocker's dream - more amps, for louder sound. It "also" allows for feeding one signal into a special effects unit to tweak the sound, and/or allow for adding the sound tweaks to the "original" sound.
