Welcome to the All About Mixers Web Site.
This website is my creation in response to the poor information available on the world wide wasteland we all call the world wide web. I have been building "custom Mixers" and consoles for over thirty years. I have built consolettes for Broadcast Stations and home recording studios. In the early 70's (the 1970's) I built high-power custom amplifiers for rock-n-roll bands in Nashville Tennessee. My amplifiers where nick-named "Nose Bleeds" because the sound pressure that they were capable of delivering often resulted in people standing within 20-30 feet in front of the speakers developing nose bleeds. I personally stipulated that the speaker arrays were to be mounted high up on the rigging and a minimal of 12 feet above the crowd with the speakers oriented to radiate above and over the crowds heads to prevent unnecessary ear damage. But my warnings almost always went unheeded, and rockers being the rebels that they were - they usually mounted the arrays directly towards the crowds.
Crowds at the Battle of the Bands events in Nashville,TN, Birmingham, Al; Tupelo, Ms; Memphis, Tn; and Jackson, Ms were always getting nose bleeds from "my" amps, even though I constantly pointed out that they were being incorrectly set-up.
Needless to say - My amps were banned from "Battle of the Bands Events" starting in the spring of 1975. A few enterprising Bands went as far as to re-box the amps - but were often caught and removed from competition.
One enterprising Individual from Brentwood, Tennessee (his father was a member of the Grand Ole Opry) even went as far as to encase two of my amps into Fender Amp Cases - Which I found really strange (and funny) since my amps were transistorized, and the Fender Case was a "Tube Amp" Case.
Oh well... At least a lot of my mixers and audio processors survived the banishment tribunals.
This web site is dedicated to the "Analog Audio Mixer".
Analog Mixer Theory and Practices will be discussed along with practical examples when possible. (You must remember that many really good mixer designs are still trademarked and copyrighted to this date). When I can - I will provide real schematics, and for the enterprising I will also try and include artwork for Printed Circuit Board Fabrication. Naturally, all the PC Boards can be ordered from me (since I have all the artwork and PCB Blanks anyway).
There is a schematic Section where you can find your favorite (or soon to be favorite) schematic.
There is a Printed Circuit Board Art Work section where you can find the PCB Artwork to help you lay out your own PC Boards to "Make Your Own" if you are so inclined.
Naturally A section is provided where you can learn to make your own Printed Circuit Boards.
What hobby site would be complete without this area???
You will naturally find links to "my" favorite PC Board Fabrication Supply sources.
The final section will be the
"Projects" section.
What hobby page would be complete without a "Projects Section"??
Last, but not the least - I have included a
Links Section So you can do your own research and browsing. Besides this allows me to legally include other "excellent" designs created by other industrious individuals without the issue of whether or not they are "my" designs. After all, the overall goal is "All About Mixers" not "All about Dave's Mixers" - Right?
